Watercolours by Katharine Nicholson on display

An exhibition of watercolour paintings of fungi

As Autumn unfolds in Windsor Great Park, a visiting exhibition of artwork on fungi has gone on display here at Cumberland Lodge.

Watercolours by Katharine Nicholson is a collection of paintings celebrating the diversity of fungi, which are essential for the functioning and sustainability of Earth’s ecosystems.

They were produced by amateur painter and naturalist Lady Katharine (1912-72), who observed the fungi in and around her homes in Winterbourne, Berkshire.

The exhibition was previously on display in the Herbarium Room at Oxford Botanic Garden, and will be available for guests of the Lodge to view in the Ante Room until the end of November.

It was launched with a private viewing on Wednesday 2 October, attended by members of Lady Katharine’s family.

It is one of two art exhibitions currently on show here: artwork from our Youth Arts Takeover can also be viewed around the ground floor of the building or on our Youth Arts Takeover online gallery.
