The Future of Social Cohesion: A Cumberland Lodge London Dialogue

An audience listens to a panel discussing the future of social cohesion.

At our 2025 London Dialogue, our panel and audience enjoyed a wide-ranging discussion on The Future of Social Cohesion, exploring some of the threats, challenges, and opportunities.

The annual event, hosted at Goodenough College on Tuesday 25 March, sparked conversations from which a number of key themes emerged:

1. The need to strengthen vertical as well as horizontal relationships

2. The importance of fostering intergenerational dialogue

3. The soft power of popular culture

4. Tackling structural inequality

5. Creating safe spaces for difficult conversations

Our panellists this year were Dame Sara Khan DBE, former independent adviser to the UK Government for Social Cohesion and Resilience and author of The Khan Review (2024); Dr Shabna Begum, CEO of the Runnymede Trust; Sunder Katwala, Director of British Future; Rianna Patterson, founder of the Dominica Dementia Foundation; and our chair, Aaron Campbell, Communications Officer for Student Minds.

At Cumberland Lodge, we’re working hard to strengthen social cohesion, developing the next generation of leaders to create more just and inclusive societies through our educational programmes and facilitation.
