Applications open for Cumberland Lodge Fellowship 2025-27

Applications for the Cumberland Lodge Fellowship 2025-27 are now open, offering 10 doctoral students and early career industry candidates a unique opportunity to develop their potential as emerging leaders and changemakers.

Through a two-year association designed to fit around and enhance their research and work, Cumberland Lodge Fellows deepen their understanding of contemporary social issues. They develop new skills in public engagement, interdisciplinary working, leadership, networking, convening, and facilitating debate on a range of topics.

Our Fellowship scheme is an integral part of our strategy to build a movement to strengthen social cohesion, nationally and internationally. We’re creating a network of alumni generating positive change and acting as ambassadors for Cumberland Lodge and the work that we do.

What does the Cumberland Lodge Fellowship involve?

During the Fellowship, we’ll provide:

  • networking opportunities with policymakers, academic experts, and industry leaders
  • increased understanding of key societal and political issues facing the world today
  • capacity-building workshops to enhance public engagement and social impact.

Fellows are able to receive mentoring from senior leaders across industry, government and the charity sector, through our association with Windsor Leadership Trust, an organisation that seeks to transform leadership in the UK.

As well as events at Cumberland Lodge, Fellows take part in consultations convened by St George’s House, an organisation that seeks to nurture wisdom through dialogue.

Who can apply?

The Fellowship is open to anyone resident in the UK. You can apply as either:

  • a post-graduate Fellow, currently registered on a doctoral programme of any discipline at a London university for the duration of the Fellowship, or;
  • an industry Fellow, within five years of beginning your career. We are particularly interested in applications from early career professionals working in the Tech industry, artificial intelligence, the finance sector, the charity sector, and the creative industries.

Each year, one of our Fellows is nominated by the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara), which provides urgently needed help to academics in immediate danger, including those forced into exile.

We want to encourage as much contact with the Cumberland Lodge programme as possible during the two-year Fellowship. For this reason we ask that applicants be resident in the Greater London region.

The deadline for applications this year is Friday 30 May.
